History

N. Kittappa of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam served as member for the Mayiladuthurai legislative constituency for four consecutive terms from 1967 to 1984.[3][4][5][6] The Indian National Congress has won the seat four times (1957,[7] 1962,[8] 1991[9] and 2006[10]), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, five times (1967,[3] 1971,[4] 1977,[5] 1980,[6] 1989); the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam,[11] Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar)[12] and the Bharatiya Janata Party,[13] once each.
