The project was announced in October 2019.[3] Visual development was started remotely, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series intended to add 80 staff as it entered production.[2]

The show premiered on April 30, 2022 on Cartoon Network within its Cartoonito pre-school block. The series will be available to stream on HBO Max.[4] A sneak peek of the first episode was released on April 26, 2022.[5]

Plot

The series follows a number of Sesame Street characters interact with each other until a problem arrives in which the titular mechanical forms are used to solve it. While a large number of characters from the main series appear, Mecha Builders focuses on three legacy characters: Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Abby Cadabby.
