Aquaman: King of Atlantis

Aquaman: King of Atlantis is an American three-part animated miniseries produced by James Wan for the streaming service HBO Max, based on the DC Comics character Aquaman.[2] The series is produced by DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and Atomic Monster Productions. Set after the events of Wan's 2018 DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film Aquaman,[3][4] although not canonical to the DCEU,[5] the miniseries began on October 14, 2021 and subsequent episodes were released on a weekly basis.[6] It will also air on Cartoon Network on May 14, 2022.[7] It will released on DVD on June 21, 2022 and re-edited as a feature-length film.[8][9] It was originally to air as part of the ACME Night block.

One day after defeating Ocean Master, Aquaman has finally become King of Atlantis but while some welcome him others aren't so sure he's the right fit for the job, Aquaman desperate to prove himself sets out with Mera to find a outpost that Atlantis lost contact with years ago,only to find it has seemingly vanished along with all the water creating a scorching desert. Aquaman and Mera set of on foot and come across a water pool and four criminals who reveal what happened to the outpost. as they talk a man with a russian accent approaches them and introduces himself as Petyr Mortikov, Mortikov offers assistance to Aquaman and Mera and takes them to his base, Mera is suspicious of Mortikov but Aquaman dismisses it but agrees to sneak into Mortikov's control tower the two are caught and betrayed by Mortikov who traps them in a cave while imprisoned the duo meet the people of the lost outpost who tell them that Mortikov captured them and took over their town. Aquaman frees them and engages Mortikov and find that he has the ocean water stored in the tower along with a blue crystal. Aquaman defeats Mortikov and frees the water the people resettle into their town while Aquaman and Mera take Mortikov and the crystal back to Atlantis but are shocked to find Ocean Master king once more and that one year has gone by.

Aquaman easily takes back Atlantis from Ocean Master and interrogates Mortikov but the latter doesn't talk and is thrown in jail.Aquaman learns from Vulko that the crystal can slow down time so a year would feel like a day, despite being king again most of the people still believe Aquaman isn't worthy of being king. Aquaman realizes Ocean Master is gone and took his trident. He and Mera find Ocean Master mocking Aquaman, angered and humiliated Aquaman and Mera pursue Ocean Master throughout the city the two catch him and take back the trident as they're about to leave Aquaman sees a glowing object, Mera advises him to leave it be Aquaman ignores her and touches it the object turns out to be a robotic fishing hook and snags Aquaman and Ocean Master but while Aquaman escapes Ocean Master is captured by the fisherman and is taken away. Aquaman is rescued by Mera and the two try to follow the fisherman's trail Aquaman and Mera get a lead from a crab which leads them to a island where they meet a woman and her son she offers them food and shelter for the night as they eat. they learn that her husband has been missing for days, Aquaman suspects that the woman's husband is the fisherman but doesn't tell her the woman gives Aquaman and Mera a boat and the two leave soon after heading out several small sea creatures attack the boat and end up destroying it the two swim towards a second island where they confront the fisherman, Aquaman tries to reason with him and convince him to return home,only to find out that the fisherman's body is being controlled by a entity named Primordius who also controls the island. Primordius reveals he tricked the fisherman into putting the squid (which held his consciousness) on his head. Aquaman and Mera fight Primordius but he anticipates their every move and easily defeats them. Aquaman seems ready to give up until Mera realizes that Primordius and the island are connected if they hurt the island they hurt Primordious. The plan is a success and Primordious is defeated. Aquaman and Mera enter a cave at the top of the island. where they find a second crystal but it's red they remove it from the cave freeing the fisherman and the island as the three look at the sunrise the fisherman's family arrives and they decide to stay on the island. Aquaman and Mera free Ocean Master and find that he has aged rapidly Aquaman,Mera,and Ocean Master return to Atlantis Where Aquaman finds that his portrait has been finished, Meanwhile in prison Ocean Master tells the prison guard about the red crystal but the guard doesn't care, Ocean Master tries to rest but is woken up by Mortikov who urges Ocean Master to tell him more about the crystal.

Time has passed since the incident with Primordious and despite his recent accomplishments Aquaman is still having trouble winning over the people fusturating him. Aquaman and Mera learn from Vulko that the two crystals they found can control space and time, separated they can cause serious damage but put together they can destroy an entire planet. Vulko shows the two a armored suit that can safely contain the crystals but warns them not to let the crystals touch. At the same time a jailbreak happens and the prisoners escape to take revenge on Atlantis. Aquaman,Mera,and Vulko fight and defeat the prisoners the three return to the palace only to find Ocean Master waiting for them Ocean Master reveals he and Mortikov staged the jailbreak to buy Mortikov time to steal the crystals and armor. Aquaman and his companions rush to Vulko's lab and find that Mortikov has already taken the crystals Mortikov tells them he plans to use the crystals to destroy earth and reveals himself to be a cyborg Aquaman and the others look on in horror as Mortikov takes control of the armor and takes on the name Scavenger. Aquaman,Mera,and Vulko take on Scavenger but he defeats them with the crystals power, Scavenger brings the palace down and forces Aquaman and his friends to escape, Scavenger emerges from the wreckage and begins to destroy Atlantis Aquaman,Mera,and Vulko fight Scavenger and lose again. Scavenger starts to use the crystals to tear the earth in two when all hope seems lost the people rally and try to stone Scavenger but he defends himself Aquaman realizes the only way to defeat him is to bring the two crystals together this selfless act earns Aquaman the people's even Ocean Master's trust Aquaman let's the crystals touch and they merge together killing Scavenger. Aquaman and the Atlanteans celebrate and to please the people Aquaman reluctantly releases Ocean Master but sends Vulko's octopus to keep an eye on him the people cheer for Aquaman finally accepting him as their king.

Production

A three-part animated miniseries based on the DC Comics character Aquaman was announced in January 2020.[11] James Wan, who directed the 2018 live-action film and its upcoming 2023 sequel, serves as executive producer. The miniseries premiered on HBO Max.[11][12][13] The characters Mera, Vulko, and Ocean Master also appear in the series.[14][1][15] The series will air on Cartoon Network on May 14, 2022.[16] It was originally to air as part of the ACME Night block. Aquaman: King of Atlantis was released on October 14, 2021.[17]
