Libochovice

Libochovice (German: Libochowitz) is a town in Litoměřice District in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,500 inhabitants. It lies on the Ohře river.

History

The first written mention of Libochovice is from 1336, when it was described as a market town with a keep. In 1560, Libochovice became a town.[2]

From the first half of the 17th century there was a strong Jewish community, but most of them died in Nazi concentration camps, and this community was never renewed after the World War II.

Sights

The town is known for the Libochovice Chateau.

Among Jewish sights belongs cemetery, big house at Jewish quarter, where was school, kosher butchery and municipal authority, monument remembering for destroyed synagogue (first mentioned at 1651, destroyed around 1980) and mikveh.
