Junub

Junub (جنب) is an Islamic term meaning ritually impure due to sexual intercourse or seminal discharge. A person in such a state needs to take a bath in order to become ritually pure and be able to perform his prayers.[1]

Prohibited actions

  • A person is forbidden from offering salat.
  • Some Muslims believe that they must perform a ritual cleansing with water (Wudu or Ghusl) before touching a copy of the Quran, although this view is not universal.[2]
  • Women are exempt from fasting during their monthly cycle.
