During the Miss America competition, Broyles highlighted her vulnerability and openness on social media about having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dermatillomania, as well as her history with volunteering for the Special Olympics.[3] Before the competition, she planned to become a physician assistant due to financial concerns over the cost of medical school, though she stated her circumstances changed due to winning the competition's scholarships.[3] She was awarded a record $100,000 in scholarships and succeeded Camille Schrier. Broyles won the title on December 16, 2021, becoming the third Asian-American, the first Korean-American, and first Alaskan to win Miss America as well as the first titleholder outside of the contiguous United States since Angela Perez Baraquio of Hawaii in Miss America 2001.[4]
Broyles began attending the Arizona State University's Barrett, The Honors College in 2019, majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Voice Performance. She plans to attend medical school and become a dermatologist.[1]
