Internal selection
SF DRS opened a submission period for interested artists to submit their applications until 15 October 2004. Artists of any nationality were able to apply; however, only artists that have had television and stage experience (live performances), have made at least one video and have released at least one CD which placed among the top 50 in an official chart were eligible.[1] A jury panel composed of members from the three Swiss broadcasters SF DRS, TSR and RSI evaluated the applications received and selected the winner. On 9 November 2004, Estonian girl-band Vanilla Ninja was announced as the Swiss entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005.[2] Their song "Cool Vibes" was presented on 5 March 2005 during a show hosted by Sandra Studer that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest.
At Eurovision
Because Switzerland failed to qualify in 2004 Vanilla Ninja was forced to compete in the Eurovision semi-final, performed 19th, following Andorra and preceding Croatia. Switzerland qualified to the final, placing 8th in the semi-final and scoring 114 points.[3] In the final Switzerland performed 22nd following Bosnia & Herzegovina and preceding Latvia, and finished in 8th place with 128 points.[4]
The spokesperson who revealed Switzerland's votes for other countries was Cécile Bähler.[5]
