2021–22 EHF European League

The 2021–22 EHF European League is the 2nd edition of the EHF European League, which is the second most important European handball club competition organised by the European Handball Federation (EHF).

Qualifying rounds

First qualifying round

A total of 32 teams were involved in the first qualifying round draw. The first leg matches was held on 28–29 August 2021, while the second leg matches was held on 04–05 September 2021.[1] The draw was held in EHF office in Vienna.[2]

Second qualifying round

A total of 24 teams were involved in the second qualifying round draw, 16 advancing from the previous round and 8 teams entering this round. The two legs matches were played on 21st & 28th of September 2021, and the results of this round were:[4]

Group Stage

Seedings

The 24 teams were divided into six pots of four teams, with a team from each pot being drawn to each group. Teams from the same country could not be drawn into the same group.[5]

Tiebreakers

Teams were ranked according to points (2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss), and if tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria were applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings:

  1. Points in matches among tied teams;
  2. Goal difference in matches among tied teams;
  3. Away goals scored in matches among tied teams;
  4. Goal difference in all group matches;
  5. Goals scored in all group matches;
  6. If more than two teams were tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams were still tied, all head-to-head criteria above were reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;
  7. Drawing lots.
