The Malaysian football squad, known as the Harimau Malaya (Malayan Tigers), deserves more worldwide exposure. Dato’ Ananth puts forward to showcase of their ability to play on a global stage. With that in mind, he accepted the challenge of bringing our local heroes under international scrutiny and standards using his own initiative.
The first Airmarine Cup was held in 2019, and it was a FIFA ranked match sanctioned by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). It was inspired by the synergies between Airmarine Asia Sdn Bhd (a logistics company owned by Dato' Ananth S Nathan) and local football community.
The Airmarine Cup 2019 was meticulously planned and completed to improve our Nation's FIFA rating.
The following countries competed in the 2019 Airmarine Cup:
1. Malaysia
2. Singapore
3. Afghanistan
4. Oman
The competition took place in the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Selangor, Malaysia, from March 20 to March 23.
Faiz Nasir, made his first international goal debut in the Malaysia versus Afghanistan.[1][2][3]
Oman won the tournament after beating Singapore 5–4 through penalty shoot-out for their first title.[4][5][6]
Participating nations
Oman, Singapore, and the Solomon Islands were invited to participate in the Airmarine Cup 209, which was hosted by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), in early February 2019. However, Solomon Islands announced their withdrawal on March 1, 2019, due to the tournament date coincided with their league schedule. This prompted FAM to suggest Afghanistan as a possible replacement contender. Afghanistan confirmed their participation on the same day, and the draw was held on March 4th.
