- February 4: The 39th Annie Awards are held.[1]
- February 14: Matt Groening receives a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[2]
- February 19: The Simpsons reach their 500th episode with At Long Last Leave, which guest stars Julian Assange.[3]

- March 2: The Lorax, a film based on the book by Dr. Seuss is released.
April
- April 15: The Simpsons episode Beware My Cheating Bart premieres, with the couch gag being animated by Bill Plympton. This is the first time he receives this honor.[5]
May
- May 3: Carlos Loiseau's Ánima Buenos Aires premiers. The director passes away five days later.[6]
- May 20: The Simpsons episode Lisa Goes Gaga premieres, guest starring pop singer Lady Gaga.[7] This episode was panned by critics along with Simpsons fans and Lady Gaga fans and it's often considered to be one of the worst Simpsons episodes.
June
- June 8: The third Madagascar film, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, is released by DreamWorks.
- June 15: The first episode of Gravity Falls is broadcast with critical acclaim.[8]
- June 22: Brave, produced by the Walt Disney Company and Pixar, is released.[9]
July
- July 13: The animated short The Longest Daycare premieres, featuring Maggie Simpson and directed by David Silverman.[10]
