Premise

One evening, eight Mennonite women climb into a hay loft to conduct a secret meeting. For the past two years, each of these women, and more than a hundred other girls in their colony, has been repeatedly drugged and raped in the night by the men of their colony, who they are told are demons coming to punish them for their sins.

Production

In December 2020, it was reported that Frances McDormand would star in the film, which would be written and directed by Sarah Polley.[1] In June 2021, Ben Whishaw, Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Sheila McCarthy and Michelle McLeod joined the cast of the film.[2] Hildur Guðnadóttir composed the film's score.[3]

Principal photography took place from July 19 to September 10, 2021, in Toronto.[4][5][6]
