Wednesfield Grammar school opened in 1960, initially as a Grammar Technical school but the technical part was soon dropped. It coincided with the staged closure of a school in Wednesbury so opened with three year groups, two from Wednesbury and a new, year 7 intake from Wednesfield, Essington, and Codsall. At the time Wolverhampton and Wednesfield were in Staffordshire.
