Teo Ho Pin

Teo Ho Pin (Chinese: 张俰宾; pinyin: Zhāng Huòbīn; born 19 January 1960) is a former Singaporean politician. In 2020, Teo retired from politics and hence did not stand for the 2020 Singaporean general election.[1]

In this Chinese name, the family name is Teo.

A member of the country's governing People's Action Party (PAP), Teo was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Panjang SMC from 6 May 2006 to 23 June 2020, for Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC for Bukit Panjang from 25 October 2001 to 20 April 2006 as well as for Sembawang GRC for Bukit Panjang from 23 December 1996 to 18 October 2001. He was also the Mayor of the North West Community Development Council (CDC).[2]

Education and early career

Teo was educated in New Town Secondary School and National Junior College. He completed a Bachelor of Science with honours in building at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1985. He later received a Master of Science in project managing and a Doctor of Philosophy in building from Heriot-Watt University in 1987 and 1990 respectively.[3]

Teo was a Senior Lecturer in NUS from 1985 to 1999. He was also President of the Singapore Institute of Building (1996–2002) and Consumers' Association of Singapore (1999–2001).

Political career

Teo's political career began in 1996 when he was elected a member of parliament for the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (Sembawang GRC). He subsequently served as an MP for Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC from 2001 to 2006, and for Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency (Bukit Panjang SMC) from 2006 to 2011. In the 2011 general elections, Teo was voted into office again as an MP for Bukit Panjang SMC.[4]

Teo was also Mayor of the North-West CDC from 2001 till his retirement in 2020[5] and also the Deputy Government Whip.[6]

Teo retired from politics in 2020 and did not content in the 2020 Singaporean general election.[6]
