History
On 10 January 2022, the Norwegian public broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) revealed that Subwoolfer would compete in Melodi Grand Prix 2022, the Norwegian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.[5] Having been selected as a pre-qualified finalist, they were scheduled to showcase their entry "Give That Wolf a Banana" in the third heat of the competition on 29 January.[6] However, their performance was postponed to the fourth heat, because they had tested positive for COVID-19.[6] They performed the song again in the final on 19 February and went on to win the competition with 368,106 votes.[2] With their victory, they were automatically selected to represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, to be held in Turin, Italy.[7]
Due to being dressed in yellow wolf-like masks, the duo's real identities have remained undisclosed. A fictional story about their origins was published, stating that they began their career "4.5 billion years ago on the Moon" and claiming to be the "most successful band in our galaxy".[5] The duo's desired anonymity has led to some speculation on social media regarding their identities. Among the names attributed to Keith and Jim are the Ylvis brothers, Gaute Ormåsen, Ben Adams, and Erik & Kriss.[7][8][9]
On 11 February 2022, Subwoolfer released a Valentine's Day version of their song, titled "Give That Wolf a Romantic Banana".[10]
After Subwoolfer's victory in the national selection, the song has been streamed more than 7 million times on Spotify.[11]
