History

The university was founded in 1996. Effective January 1, 2017, Stanbridge College changed its name to Stanbridge University. The change reflects the increased breadth of academic scholarship for its undergraduate and graduate programs in Nursing and Allied Health.

Stanbridge University's flagship campus relocated in Orange County in 1997. The Irvine-based school is just east of Newport Beach, south of Costa Mesa, and is adjacent to John Wayne Airport.[1] In 2018, Stanbridge University opened its branch campus in Alhambra, CA in Los Angeles County. The Riverside campus received approval from ACCSC and opened in 2021.[2]

In 2021, the Riverside campus opened with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and facilities for Nursing Skill Labs, Simulation Lab, and classrooms.[3]

Technology

Stanbridge University opened the first SynDaver Synthetic Human Cadaver Lab on the west coast.[12][13]

The Virtual Reality Lab features zSpace virtual reality and augmented reality.[14] The Virtual Reality Lab includes the Anatomage Table, for virtual dissection of anatomical models.[15]

Stanbridge University partnered with Cornell University to bring the first high-fidelity canine patient simulator capabilities to the west coast.[16]

In 2022, the university launched a new Robotics and Intelligent Sciences Lab featuring the first LuxAI humanoid social robot, Gloreha Sinfonia hand rehabilitation device, and MediTouch ArmTutor robotic device in California for graduate-level research.[17]

The on-campus Simulation Lab at Stanbridge University features high fidelity, simulation manikins: Laerdal SimMan 3G, SimMom, and SimNewB.[18]

The on-campus Driving Simulator Lab was built for OT graduate students practice driving assessments and learn to help clients who experienced strokes and other neurological incidents with the multidimensional aspects of the occupation of driving.[19]

Student body

The institution has an award-winning community service program called the Stanbridge outREACH program. It was internationally recognized with the Social Responsibility Award by Investors in People in 2021.[20] Stanbridge outREACH has five signature initiatives: environmental rehabilitation, food security, disability community advocacy, childhood literacy, and animal welfare.[21] Partnerships include Life College, Life Rolls On, WAVES project, High Hopes Head Injury Program, Ocean Rehabilitation Project, Root for Change Initiative, the Little Free Library, The Free Pantry (co-founded by Stanbridge University), Project Wildsong, and many others.

Student associations including Stanbridge University's Delta Psi chapter of the Pi Theta Epsilon - Occupational Therapy Honor Society support student leadership, advocacy for future professions, and service to the community.[22]
