History
The name of the town which literally means two doors, is from the fact the region used to have two yeollyeomuns(a door that was awarded to Yeollyeos).[3]
In South korean popular culture
The location has been used in a lot of south korean shows such as the animated show Dooly the Little Dinosaur because the region was home to a lot of old buildings, and is characterised as a place where rather impoverished normal people live with a lot of alleyways. which makes it easier for writers to establish "rags to riches" stories and to communicate a sense of warmth to the audience and a place with nostalgic quality.[4]The location was popularized internationally by the 2015 Korean drama Reply 1988 and 2021 Netflix series Squid Game.[5]
