Shamshera
Shamshera is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language 2022 period action drama film directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films.[3][4] The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as the eponymous anti-hero alongside Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor.[5][6][7] A big-budget period drama based on dacoits, Shamshera will also be released simultaneously in IMAX and dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions.[8]

Principal photography for Shamshera begun in December 2018.[9] Shamshera is the first film featuring Ranbir Kapoor in a double role; Dutt plays the main antagonist and Vaani Kapoor portrays a dancer.[10][11] Filming wrapped up in September 2020.[12]
Shamshera was initially scheduled for a theatrical release in 2020 or 2021, but was postponed due to post production delays and the COVID-19 pandemic.[13][14] In February, 2022, a release date of 22 July 2022 was announced.[1]

Production
Shamshera was officially launched in May 2018 by Yash Raj Films through a motion poster, starring Ranbir Kapoor as the titular character Shamshera.[8] Sanjay Dutt was cast as antagonist Shuddh Singh, and Vaani Kapoor was signed to play the female lead.[6][7] To prepare her role, Vaani Kapoor took professional training in Kathak.[15]
Principal photography begun in December 2018.[9] For the film, a massive fort was built at Film City, Goregaon, requiring 2 months of preparation and the effort of nearly 300 workers.[16] Filming ended in September 2020.[17][12]
Release
Originally planned for cinema release on 31 July 2020, Shamshera was later on highly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][12] It was then rescheduled to 25 June 2021, but due to the second wave of pandemic, the release was postponed to 18 March 2022, that once again got deferred due to Omicron variant spread.[13] Now, it will finally release in worldwide cinemas on 22 July 2022.[1]
