The Nothing Phone 1, stylised as NOTHING phone (1), is an upcoming Android smartphone by Nothing Technology Ltd. The phone was announced on March 23, 2022 and is anticipated to be released in summer 2022.

History

Nothing was founded in 2020 and was announced on January 27, 2021 by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, months after Pei left the company. The goal for the company was to "remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future." While no product was announced at the time, the company announced that new products from the company will be released later in the year.[3][4]

After Nothing released their first product, the ear (1), Nothing announced to partnership with Qualcomm, which will allow them to use their Snapdragon chips in their future devices.[5]

Speculation on Nothing's first smartphone began to rise in March 2022 during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona when the company showed its prototype to executives, including Qualcomm.[6] After securing up to $70 million in Series B Financing, Nothing announced that the company will hold a keynote event on March 23.[7][8]

On March 23, 2022, Nothing announced its first smart phone as part of their event, titled the "phone (1)".[1][9]

The Phone 1 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.[1]

Software

The Phone 1 will run on Nothing OS, a new operating system based on the Android operating system. The operating system will be built on an ecosystem that can connect and integrate Nothing products and products from other brands. Nothing OS is expected to be near-stock android, with some tweaks to ensure that the phone would provide "a fast, smooth, and personal experience." The phone will receive at least three years of software updates and four years of security updates.[2][9][10]
