Nguyễn Tiến Linh

Nguyễn Tiến Linh (born 20 October 1997) is a Vietnamese footballer who plays the position of striker for V.League 1 club Becamex Bình Dương and the Vietnam national football team.[2]

In 2021, Tiến Linh was nominated by a panel of sports journalists and football experts for Best Footballer in Asia.[3] He is considered one of the best Vietnamese footballers of his generation.

After scoring a goal against China, he became the all time leader for Vietnam in world cup qualifiers, passing Lê Công Vinh who had 7.[4]

Early life

Tiến Linh was born and raised in Cam Hoang commune, Cam Giang district, Hai Duong. At the age of 2, his mother moved to South Korea to work. At the age of 6, he followed his father to Binh Duong. His mother returned to Vietnam when he was 9 years old. Currently, the family opens a football cafe in Thuan An town.[5]

He was the top scorer of Vietnamese National U-19 Football Championship with 5 goals.

2016-2017 : Early Career

Tiến Linh made his first debut with Becamex Binh Duong FC in 2016.

In 2017, his team placed second in V.League 1

2018 : Best Season

Tiến Linh scored 15 goals in V.League 1. Tiến Linh and Becamex Binh Duong won the Vietnamese National Football Cup.

2019-present : Vietnamese Bronze Ball

In 2019, Becamex Binh Duong placed second in the Vietnamese National Football Super Cup.

In 2020, Tiến Linh scored 5 goals.

In 2021, Tiến Linh scored 6 goals but V.League 1 was cancelled.[6]

2022, Tiến Linh won the Vietnamese Bronze Ball[7]

International Career

2018: First Match for Vietnam and won AFF Championship

In 2018, Tiến Linh played his first match for Vietnam national football team. He scored his first goal for Vietnam national football team in the AFF Championship vs Cambodia national football team where Tiến Linh and Vietnam won 2018 AFF Championship

2019-present

In 2019, Tiến Linh scored his first goal in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification in the match vs Indonesia national football team

In 2021, Tiến Linh scored 3 goals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification to help Vietnam advance to the second round of world cup qualification. This was the first time Vietnam has advanced to the second round.

In 2021 AFF Championship, his team lost in semifinals by Thailand national football team.

In 2022, he scored a goal in a match against China to pass Le Cong Vinh for most goals scored in world cup qualification in Vietnamese history
