Mathira Constituency
Mathira Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Nyeri County. The constituency was established for the 1963 elections. Mathira is popularly known as Mathira ya Githomo (education), it has the most educated population in the country. Found right at the foot of Mt Kenya, Mathira is known for growing of tea and coffee. Karatina town is to the east. There are several tarmac roads crisscrossing Mathira including the Kenal-Marua superhighway. There are many education institutions such as Karatina University, Tumutumu girls high school, Kanjuri High school, Karatina girls, Bishop Gatimu girls high school among many others. Health facilities include Karatina Hospital, Jamii Hospital, PCEA Tumutumu hospital and many dispensaries. There are very few major industries safe for Kagochi tea factory. Mountain Lodge leads in tourism.
