Lalkuan

In the 2011 India census,[2] Lalkuan had a population of 7,644. Males constituted 55% of the population and females 45%. Lalkuan had an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 76% and female literacy was 74%. In Lalkuan, 12% of the population was under 6 years of age. Hindi, Kumauni and Punjabi are the main languages spoken there.

It is situated 80 km from Bareilly on Nainital Road, 24 km from Rudrapur, 6 km from Pantnagar Airport, and 16 km from Haldwani.

Lalkuan is an important railway junction of NER and serves as a gateway to the Kumaun region of Uttarakhand. Long-distance trains originate from Lalkuan. Some short-distance trains also originate there and travel to Bareilly, Moradabad and Kashipur. The railway station is one of the largest in Uttarakhand.

Lalkuan is known for a huge paper mill (Century Pulp & Paper) of Birla Group. It is located near G.B. Pant University Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.

Two ATMs and branches of SBI, Nainital Bank are located there.

The main occupation is agriculture and dairy products.

Century Pulp & Paper Mill provides jobs & opportunities to the people. India's largest aromatic park is situated in the city. Lalkuan is surrounded by dark forests on one side and a river on the other side. Its forest is connected to Nepal, owing to which it is also a track for Asiatic Elephants. Nowadays Lalkuan is also identified as the new home for ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police). Lalkuan also has an Indian Oil Depot. It's also famous for a 25 acre land which is home to hundreds of paper mill workers.
