L'Anse-au-Clair
L'Anse-au-Clair is a town in the Labrador portion of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town has a population of 216 in the 2016 census, up from 192 in 2011.[1]

It is located on Route 510, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from the Quebec–Labrador border. It was established by the French in the early 18th century. People began to settle in the L'Anse-au-Clair area after the Quebec–Labrador border dispute was settled in 1825.[2]
The settlement of L'Anse au Cotard an area near the town is attributed to Jersey fishermen and merchants coming to the region with the earliest known permanent resident being James Dumaresq from the Dumaresq family who decided to build a home in the region around 1810. Descendants of Dumaresq and other Jersey families still inhabit the region and Canada as a whole.[3][4]
Demographics
In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, L'Anse au Loup had a population of 692 living in 302 of its 322 total private dwellings, a change of 24% from its 2016 population of 558. With a land area of 3.39 km2 (1.31 sq mi), it had a population density of 204.1/km2 (528.7/sq mi) in 2021.[5]
