Khalid Mehmood Soomro
Khalid Mehmood Soomro (May 7, 1959 to November 29, 2014) was a Pakistani religious leader.[1]
Early life
Soomro was the son of Ali Muhammed Haqani. He and his wife had 3 daughters and 6 sons, including Allama Nasir Mehmood Soomro, Allama Rashid Mehmood Soomro, Allama Tahir Mehmood Soomro, Allama Tariq Mehmood Soomro, Allama Atta-ur-Rehman Soomro, and Dr. Shafique-ur-Rehman Soomro.
Khalid Mehmood Soomro was born in Larkana near the city of Aqil. He came from a family of poor carpenters. His father was a respected Islamic teacher. After disagreements between his father and Ayoub Khuro, his father moved to Larkana, where Khalid was born. His early education to 5th grade came in the nearby town of Aqil. In 1974, he was admitted into the Government Pilot Higher Secondary School Larkana after completing the metrics course in the school he attended, Govt Degree College Larkano. In 1976, he completed an Intermediate in Science Group.
He studied at Chandka Medical College in 1976, and in 1984 he graduated with a degree of MBBS. He completed postgraduate studies in Islamic culture from Sachal Sarmast Oriental College Larkana, and completed his religious studies from the International Islamic University,[2] Islamabad International Islamic University Islamabad, with distinction. Soomro obtained a degree from Al-Azhar University, Egypt, where he was a student of Prof Gad al-Haq the university Vice-Chancellor.
Career
His father belonged to an Islamic and Political Party called Jamiat-ulmae-Islam Pakistan. in 1988, his political career started when he was chosen as Secretary General in Jamiat-ulmae-Islam [Sindh]. On several occasions, he was a candidate for the Provincial and National Assembly.
He served as Senator of JUI-F from Sindh in Senate of Pakistan.[3]
Soomro set up a Welfare Organization called Al Mehmood Social Welfare Organization Pakistan.
Death
He was assassinated in Sukkur on November 29, 2014, at age 55.[4] His funeral procession was attended by thousands of people.[5][6]
