Hiveworks Comics

Hiveworks Comics (often just called Hiveworks) is a creator-owned graphic novel publisher and studio specializing in online comics.

Description

The company was founded in 2011, and works with over 300 artists. As of 2021, it has raised over $5 million in funds on Kickstarter, has more than 15 million users and has 10 million social media followers.[1] Hiveworks provides hosting for webcomics,[2] as well as mentoring and advertising.[3] The Hiveworks website features a store, where creators can profit from merchandise sales.[4] It also assists artists with publishing.[5]

In 2018, French publisher Hachette announced its Robinson Millenials label would be publishing web-comics in partnership with Hiveworks.[6][7] In 2020, Hiveworks partnered with Seven Seas Entertainment to release trade paperback editions, through Seven Seas’ existing deal with Penguin Random House.[8]

Hiveworks is known for focusing more on long-form comics rather than shorter meme comics.[9] It is also known for its support for cartoonists of color and LGBT cartoonists.[10][11]

The CEO of Hiveworks, Xellette Stillwell, was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2021.[1]
