Harano Sur
Harano Sur (transl. The Lost Melody) is a 1957 Indian Bengali-language romantic drama film by Ajoy Kar, starring Suchitra Sen and Uttam Kumar, with music by Hemant Kumar, and sung by Geeta Dutt. The film is regarded as one of the finest examples [1] of Bengali cinema of this early golden [2] period. The film is based on the 1942 American film Random Harvest.[3][4]

Synopsis
An amnesiac after a train accident, Alok Mukherjee (Uttam Kumar) is rescued on escaping from the asylum where he is admitted by doctor Roma Banerjee (Suchitra Sen) who takes him to her father's (Pahadi Sanyal) country house in a village called Palaspur. There, while treating him she falls for him and he for her. They marry but a second accident makes him recall his life as a rich businessman in Calcutta and forget the memories spent with Roma. Roma follows him to Calcutta and meets him there but he doesn't recognise her. He hires her as governess to his niece instead. Roma keeps trying to simulate Alok's memory but is looked at suspiciously by Lata, Alok's fiancée in Calcutta who thinks Roma is snatching Alok away from her and who complains to Alok's mother. The latter has Roma kicked out. Alok realizing she is from Palaspur and that is where he got back his memory goes there and regains his memory of times spent with Roma there. All's well that end well.[5]

Production
Uttam Kumar first ever come to film production field. He always want to take Bengali cinema on height of Bollywood level. So he jointly produced with famous director Ajoy Kar and founded a production house kept the name as Alochaya Production Private L.T.D. At first the Ajoy Kar taken a iconic English novel Random Harvest written by John Milton which had been already made a film in Hollywood. The film adapted from the novel and loosely inspired from the film. That time Suchitra Sen was very busy actress to working on both hindi and bengali film but she said she ready to cancelled all the date for this film when she heard the film is produced Uttam himself.

All lyrics are written by Gauriprasanna Mazumder; all music is composed by Hemant Kumar. The both of songs became very big hit and evergreen..

Released and reception
The film released before Durga Puja occasions. The English subtle is released as The Lost Melody. This was first pan india release film of Uttam Kumar. The film create also a record in advanced booking at Bombay. In Bengal the film advanced booking create a milestone. Kumar wanted to see Bengali cinema on Bollywood level.
The film was become massive success and collected lot of acclaimed from all over india. The chemistry of between both Uttam Suchitra attracted lot of critics. The pair become evergreen and popular in all over India. The film often regarded as one of the finest example of Golden Period of Bengali Cinema. The film create a record at the box office and become highest grossing of the year and ranned over 12 weeks.
