Design

The flag of the city of Warsaw, the capital of Poland, is a bicolour rectangle, with the aspect ratio of height to width of 5:8. It consist of two equally-sized horizontal stripes: yellow at the top, and red at the bottom. The yellow colour is described in the CMYK color model as 0:17:90:0, while red, as 0:95:100:0.[1]

Its colours had been adopted from the coat of arms of the city,[2] which depics a mermaid with golden (yellow) sword, shield and hair, on the red background, and with a golden (yellow) crown above the escutcheon.[1]

History

The flag had been adopted by the city in 1938.[2]
