Erin Healy

Erin Healy (born April 22) is an American politician serving as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from the 14th district.

Career

2018 election season

In 2018, Healy ran for one of two South Dakota House of Representative seats in District 14. She ran against incumbents, retired veteran and community figure, Larry Zikmund[1] and retired teacher, Tom Holmes,[2] who were both running for re-election in the district. Also in the race was Democrat Valerie Loudenback, vice-president and owner of Grand Prairie Foods.[3] On November 6, 2018 Healy won the seat with 25.5% of the vote along with Larry Zikmund, re-elected with 26.5% of the vote.[4] Healy was one of 11 Democrats and one of 19 women elected or re-elected to the House.[5]

2019–2020 legislative session

On January 5, 2019, Healy was sworn in at the South Dakota capitol building ahead of Governor Kristi Noem's inauguration. Her colleagues chose her as the party whip alongside Oren Lesmeister and on January 8, 2019, her first session as South Dakota 14th District Representative began.[6] She served as the Vice-Chair for the Joint Committee on Reducing the Overall Use of Acute Mental Health Hospitalizations. She also serves on the Education Committee and Health and Human Services Committees.[7] Healy prime sponsored four bills including HB 1011, SB 96, SB 97, SB 194.[8] She also co-sponsored thirty-eight bills, see them all here.

2020 election season

In the 2020 general election of November 3, 2020 Healy ran for re-election against fellow Democrat, Mike Huber. Healy also ran against two Republicans, Taylor Rehfeldt, a nurse, and Tom Holmes. On the general election of November 3, 2020, full vote counts were not immediately released. At around 6 p.m. on November 4, 2020, all election information for Minnehaha County was officiated by the South Dakota Secretary of State. Healy received 26% of the vote in District 14, re-electing her to the South Dakota House of Representatives, alongside Taylor Rehfeldt with 28% of the vote.[9] Mike Huber and Tom Holmes did not receive enough of the vote to be elected. Healy was one of 23 (up four seats) women, and one of eight Democrats (down three seats) elected or re-elected to the House.

2021 legislative season

As of January, 2021, Healy serves as one of two representatives of South Dakota's 14th District alongside Taylor Rehfeldt.
