Classy (group)

Classy (/ˈklæsi/; Korean: 클라씨; RR: Keullassi; stylized as CLASSy or CLASS:y) is a South Korean girl group formed through the MBC reality competition show My Teenage Girl. The group consists of seven members: Won Ji-min, Kim Seon-you, Myung Hyung-seo, Hong Hye-ju, Kim Ri-won, Park Bo-eun, and Yoon Chae-won. The group is co-managed by M25, a subsidiary of MBK Entertainment, and Universal Music Japan. The group will make their official debut on May 5, 2022, with their first extended play Class Is Over.

Name

The group's name, Class:y, was suggested by the viewers of My Teenage Girl through Naver and chosen by M25.

The name was inspired by the members' "classy" charms and kept its relation to My Teenage Girl by continuing its school-related theme, as well as the inclusion of "class" and "highest grade".[1]

Career

Formation through My Teenage Girl

My Teenage Girl premiered on November 28, 2021, and featured 83 female contestants from different countries. During the live finale on February 27, 2022, the final members were determined by the viewers through voting.[2]

Prior to the show's premiere, some members were already active in the entertainment industry. Myung Hyung-seo is a former member of Busters and previously made her acting debut in the web series A-Teen 2 (2019).[3] Kim Ri-won is a former child actress and model, starring in the web series My YouTube Diary (2019) and its sequel My Mukbang Diary (2020).[4] Kim Seon-you participated in Cap-Teen, but was eliminated in the first round of performances.

2022–present: Korean debut

On March 1, Classy was confirmed to make their Korean debut in spring and announced their first concert to be held in April.[5] Shortly after, the group performed "Surprise" on various music shows as a special gift for their fans.[6][7][8] On March 8, following their performance on SBS MTV's The Show, the group scheduled their Korean debut to April and confirmed they will perform with the eliminated finalists of My Teenage Girl in their first concert.[9]

On April 16, 2022, it was announced that they will release their debut extended play, Class Is Over on May 5, 2022.[10][11]
