Synopsis

Gopal boards a mission to Planet Saharu to claim a Power Sphera among a penguin monster's eggs with BoBoiBoy. Accidentally dropping the egg he was supposed to switch places with the Power Sphera, releasing a baby, inviting the monster's attention, not before BoBoiBoy escapes. He notices Adu Du and Probe with the Power Sphera, before Fang defeats them while he calls Yaya to rescue Gopal. BoBoiBoy rescues Adu Du and Probe before they depart in the MYS Kebenaran.

A group of alien miners locate Retak'ka trapped within crystal. 100 years ago, he and Hang Kasa clashed before he sealed him within crystal. At the MYS Kebenaran Tarung compliments BoBoiBoy's gang for rescuing all Power Spheras given while Fang was worried at BoBoiBoy for nearly jeopardizing the mission by saving Adu Du and Probe. Retak'ka breaks out from the crystal, before finding out that he has a remnant of his former powers. Claiming to be the first master of the Elements, he forced the leader of the miners to reveal where BoBoiBoy and TAPOPS is for Power Spheras, assuring that he will not harm them and supply them more crystals.

The gang land at Tok Aba's Kokotiam and meet their family members. Papa Zola meets Mama Zila with their daughter, Pipi Zola. BoboiBoy consoles Fang, who was busy guarding EggaBot, inviting him for dinner at Aba's home. Adu Du and Probe then plan to obtain EggaBot, but Pipi Zola, who was accidentally brought to the spaceship, logs into it, giving her tortoise armor to beat Adu Du and Probe.

Koko Ci informs BoBoiBoy's gang in an emergency message that TAPOPS Station was under attack, where Ochobot leads them to Planet Quabaq. However, BoBoiBoy detours to TAPOPS Station, where they were astonished to see that Retak'ka destroyed it with Koko Ci and Tarung beaten. Retak'ka overpowers him even with Fang, Ying and Yaya. Disapproving of BoBoiBoy splitting his powers, Retak'ka drains BoBoiBoy's Solar, Thorn, Cyclone and Thunderstorm elements before assuming Retak'ka Darkwood and ensnaring the spaceship in vines. Gopal hurries to save BoBoiBoy, intending to save Yaya, Ying and Fang, before Ochobot urgently takes them to Planet Quabaq. As they leave, Koko Ci tells BoBoiBoy to find Hang Kasa. Adu Du falls in love with Ayu Yu who planned to shoot down their spaceship before GogoBugi detonates the TAPOPS station.

The group land at a river of acidic slime in Planet Quabaq. BoBoiBoy and Ochobot rush to retrieve information about Hang Kasa before Gopal tells them to leave the sinking ship. BoBoiBoy then transforms into Ice to freeze the slime, buying more time for everyone to evacuate. He suddenly remembers Adu Du and Probe, to which Ochbot realizes that they're not in the ship. The gang come across Kang Kongs, fast and vicious sloth monsters that slow down in the presence of light. Due to Retak'ka draining his Solar element, BoBoiBoy resorts to Blaze, before reverting after having not enough energy. The Kang Kongs proceed to attack the group, only for Hang Kasa to quell them.

The next morning, Kasa tells them that Retak'ka was a disciple of his, before he offers to train BoBoiBoy, Gopal, Adu Du and Probe for the battle against Retak'ka. Meanwhile, Retak'ka goes to various planets to upgrade his powers by absorbing their Element energy. While he prepares to drain energy from Planet Gur'lathan, it is revealed that Captain Kaizo rescued Fang, Yaya and Ying from the exploding TAPOPS Station and placed a tracker on the miners' craft. Fang and Kaizo got down on Gur'latan, where they find out that all the guards have been defeated. Yaya and Ying then tracd Retak'ka and his crew to Planet Bayugan, where Retak'ka plans to upgrade his Wind element. Ying warns the Bayugans about Retak'ka.

While BoBoiBoy and Gopal continue their training, the miners locate BoBoiBoy near Planet Rimbara. Kaizo's side, with Sai and Shielda, evacuate the Cendawa Tribe. With the last one finally on board, Retak'ka begins to absorb Rimbara's energy and traps Kaizo's ship. While Yaya, Ying and Fang with ArmoBot face Retak'ka, Kaizo eventually lifts off safely. BoBoiBoy and Gopal think about when they will be able to complete their training, before coming to know that the sooner that they complete their training, the sooner they could return to Earth, before they continue.

Papa Zola and his daughter then come across the restricted area that was Hang Kasa's house, only to find out that his house was filled with technology. BoBoiBoy and Gopal were forced to pay training fees, to Gopal's disappointment as he only has one dollar. Hang Kasa takes BoBoiBoy's Quake Element as means of payment, before sealing BoBoiBoy and Gopal in crystal.

The remaining members find Ochobot in the basement being used to power the machinery in Kasa's house only to find out that he had its databank fixed. In fact, Koko Ci had told them to go to Planet Quabaq to find a way to defeat Retak'ka. Hang Kasa reveals that he was the original master of the Crystal Element and an old friend of Retak'ka. The former had discovered him on Planet Gugura, a large landfill, where they were best friends. He discovered the CrystalBot while Retak'ka discovered the GammaBot. However, Retak'ka became greedy for more Elements. He went for Hang Kasa's Crystal power, before Hang Kasa used Ochobot to drain the Elements from him and sealed him in the Crystal Prison.

Retak'ka then tells everyone to fight him at Earth, saying that if he had not came across Fang, Yaya and Ying, he wouldn't have known about it as it contains all 7 Elements. Kasa also realizes that the Crystal Prison had kept him younger than he normally should be. Hang Kasa attempts to trick Retak'ka by saying that the real Hang Kasa cannot come due to a stomach ache, while Pipi Zola uses EggaBot to free BoBoiBoy and Gopal before it is fully charged. Retak'ka outpowers his former master before deciding to kill him. However, BoBoiBoy takes the hit before Retak'ka pins him to a rock. Gopal senses that BoBoiBoy is in danger and joins the fight, as Zola fights the miners within EggaBot. Retak'ka then tries to kill BoBoiBoy, but Hang Kasa insists on giving him back the Quake Element to encourage BoBoiBoy to stop him and apologizes for turning his back on him.

Realizing that Retak'ka told him that splitting only makes him weaker, BoBoiBoy fuses Blaze and Ice into FrostFire. Gopal hands him Ochobot to reclaim the Elements. Retak'ka fights back as Voltra, but Ying, Yaya and Fang, who were freed by Papa Zola, team up with BoBoiBoy to defeat Retak'ka. Refusing to admit defeat, he destroys a nearby dam, but BoBoiBoy freezes him as Glacier, claiming the last Element and blasts him to outer space as Supra before collapsing into the river below. The remaining members retrieve BoBoiBoy from the river.

BoBoiBoy regains consciousness and was greeted by his friends and family. Mama Zila is upset at Papa Zola for bringing her daughter to the mission. Hang Kasa share an embrace with BoBoiBoy, promising to protect the seven Elements.

In a post-credits scene, Maskmana hands ArmoBot to Amato to repair. Amato asks Maskmana on why he shouldn't have joined him, where the latter answers that he should be the one who had helped BoBoiBoy. Amato states that he needs to be independent as there is a more important mission waiting for him.

Production

The director Nizam Razak stated that the process of filmmaking for this second film is faster than the first film and only took one year to be finished. They enforced a 12-month deadline to see if they can make a film without jeopardising the quality or the storyline of the animation.[4] He admitted there is pressure in completing the movie on time but his production team of 100 people managed to do that within that time. They used better technology such as Redshift and comprehensive simulation method[5] even though the cost will be higher to give the best quality to the audience.[6] If the reaction to this film is positive, they plan to make movies consistently, with a new film every one year or every one-and-a-half year.[4]

Monsta targets the film to collect more than the first film (RM15.70 million) as the number of cinemas that show this film is higher. This film collected the biggest-grossing local animation film on its first day, raking in RM1.18 million. It successfully achieved its target by overtaking the first movie after just 8 days, collecting RM15.80 million. In 18 days, the film has collected RM25 million within three weeks. It has overtaken Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal (2019) to be the 4th highest-grossing local film in Malaysia and the highest-grossing animation film in Malaysia, including all local and international animation films, after collecting RM27.70 million for 26 days. However, the title of the highest-grossing animation film in Malaysia did not hold for too long as Ejen Ali: The Movie and Frozen II have surpassed it after only 3 months, which grossed RM 30.8 million and RM 41.67 million respectively.

In 70 days, BoBoiBoy Movie 2 has reached RM30 million (US$7.4 million) for Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Vietnam with RM29.57 million (US$7.3 million) to be the 3rd highest-grossing local film within Malaysia at that time.[2]
