Appleseed (EP)

Appleseed is an EP by the American hip hop artist Aesop Rock, the second of two self-released CDs before his first Mush Records album, Float (2000). It was available only on CD-R until 2021. The artwork for this EP was by Aesop Rock and Neal Usatin.[2] The track "Dryspell" liberally samples the song "Peace" by Ornette Coleman. The project's sole guest lyricist was Doseone.

The DIY process was followed in every aspect, as Aesop himself recalls, “I did the Appleseed hand style while working at Tepper Galleries in NYC. The cover was made at Kinko’s. The first Appleseed CD’s were CD-R’s I duped at home and sold from my backpack at an MF DOOM show at Brownies, which was right below my apartment at the time. I continued to sell hand to hand in NY, while Blockhead started fielding some mail orders from a young internet. People would send us cash or a check, and he’d cut the covers out and mail them off.“[3]

The album was re-released for the summer 2008 tour, but only 1,000 copies were printed. The EP has since been auctioned on the Internet at numerous websites, with prices ranging from 80 to 100 dollars.[4] It was released again for the 2012 Skelethon tour.

In 2021, The album was officially released on all streaming services and vinyl for the first time via Rhymesayers Entertainment.
