Al Dirah (Riyadh)
Al-Dirah (Arabic: حي الديرة, romanized: ḥaī ad-Dīrah), formerly Qasr al-Hukm,[1] also pronounced as ad-Dirah and alternatively spelled as Dheera or Deera, is a neighborhood and a subject of Baladiyah al-Batha[2] in southern Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, known for several historical and traditional landmarks, such as Al Masmak Fort,[3] Ad-Dirah Souk, Al-Mu'eiqilia market[4] and Deera Square. It was established as Qasr al-Hukm area in 1824 after successful reinstatement of the Second Saudi State by Imam Turki bin Abdullah al-Saud,[5] when he drove out the Ottoman-backed Egyptian forces.
