AC EMU
The AC EMUs are Electric multiple unit (EMU) trains that run mainly on the Mumbai Suburban Railway network. They bear close resemblance to Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains. But unlike MEMUs, they have air-conditioned coaches. The acronym stands for 'Air-Conditioned Electric Multiple Unit'.

Operation
The system is similar to that of MEMUs, operation on 25 kV AC drawn from overhead lines.
Unlike MEMUs, these units feature connected vestibules, air-conditioned coaches, glass windows, CCTV-surveillance cameras and automatic door-closing system. The Central Railway zone operates 60 AC EMU train services daily, the highest used by any zone of the Indian Railways.[1]
Manufacturing
AC EMUs are manufactured at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.
Reception
There has been widespread criticism of AC EMUs due to high fares. For instance, a trip from Kalyan to CSMT on ordinary MEMUs costs around ₹20, whereas the same trip on AC EMUs costs around ₹200. Locals cannot afford these exorbitant prices. As a result, all AC EMU trains run almost empty. This has arose questions upon the need of these trains.
The Railways is considering to lower prices for more commuters to be able to use these services.[2]
