2022 Tailteann Cup
The 2022 Tailteann Cup is the inaugural edition of the second-tier Gaelic football competition for senior county teams (the Sam Maguire Cup is the first-tier trophy). It is contested by up to sixteen teams from Divisions 3 and 4 after completion of the 2022 National Football League plus New York. If a Division 3 or 4 team reaches their provincial final, they continue in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, possibly including the All-Ireland Quaifiers, and do not participate in the Tailteann Cup.[1]

Format
The inaugural Tailteann Cup is open to up to 17 counties who do not reach their provincial final. These counties primarily are from Divisions 3 and 4 after completion of this year's National Football League. Louth and Limerick won promotion from Division 3 and thereby qualify to compete solely in the Tier 1 All-Ireland championship and avoid the Tailteann Cup. Down and Offaly were relegated from Division 2 and are relegated to the tier 2 Tailteann Cup unless they reach their provincial final.
Eligible teams will not compete in the tournament if they reach the final of their provincial championship.[1][2] The tournament will be played via the straight-knockout format.[1]
Teams
As of 30 April, none of the 17 provisionally eligible teams have qualified for a provincial final (which would result in them avoiding this tournament and competing in the Tier 1 Sam Maguire Cup instead). The remaining Division 3 and 4 teams still competing in their provincial championships are Cavan, Leitrim, Tipperary, and Westmeath.
