Thirteen Lune

Started in 2020, West Hollywood-based[1] Thirteen Lune is an e-commerce site focused on highlighting skin care, makeup, hair care and wellness items from Black and Brown owned companies with a focus on products targeted at under-represented people of color.[2] Thirteen Lune was founded by Nyakio Grieco, a Los Angeles-based beauty entrepreneur, and Patrick Herning, the CEO of plus-sized fashion brand 11 Honoré.[3] The company was backed by a $3 million seed funding from Fearless Fund,[4] as well as investments from Gwyneth Paltrow, Sean Combs, Naomi Watts, Gregg Renfrew of Beautycounter, Tracey Cunningham of Mèche salon, former U.S. Ambassador Nicole Avant, venture capitalist Patrick Finnegan and Sydney Holland of Urban and The Mystic.[5]

When it launched, Thirteen Lune sold 13 brands via its direct-to-consumer platform, including Afro Pick, Beija Flor Naturals, Buttah Skin, Bomba Curls, Charlotte Mensah, Dehiya Beauty, Gilded Body, Hyperskin, Lauren Napier Beauty, Liha Beauty, Marie Hunter Beauty, Skot Beaute, and The Established.[2]

In October 2021, JCPenney announced a partnership with Thirteen Lune to introduce their products into the retailer's brick and mortar locations, initially rolling out in 10 stores and eventually expanding to all of JCPenney's over 300 retail stores by 2023.[1]
