Symmetry (journal)
Symmetry is a monthly peer-reviewed open access scientific journal published by MDPI covering several aspects of theories and applications related to symmetry/asymmetry phenomena appearing in various aspects of natural sciences, including physics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, biology, and chemistry. The journal was established in 2009 and the editor-in-chief is Sergei Odintsov.

Sections
Symmetry consists of six sections:[1]
- Computer and Engineering Science and Symmetry/Asymmetry
- Mathematics and Symmetry/Asymmetry
- Physics and Symmetry/Asymmetry
- Chemistry and Symmetry/Asymmetry
- Biology and Symmetry/Asymmetry
- General
In addition, Symmetry runs a number special issues creating collections of papers on specific selected topics of high interest.[2] The aim of these special issues to bring together an active community of authors and readers to discuss the latest research and develop new ideas and research directions. Special Issues are led by Guest Editors who are experts in the subject, are selected by the editorial board of Symmetry, and oversee the editorial process for papers.

According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2020 impact factor of 2.713.[3]
Young Investigator Award
Since 2018, Symmetry confers the Symmetry Young Investigator Award to a young researcher in recognition of their excellence in the fields of symmetry phenomena in the natural sciences. The award consists of 2000 CHF, an offer to publish a paper free of charge following peer review, and an engraved plaque. Since 2018 the awardees have been:
- 2018: Diego Sáez-Chillón Gómez (University of the Basque Country, Spain)[4]
- 2019: Martiros Khurshudyan (University of Science and Technology of China, China)[5]
- 2020: Sunny Vagnozzi (University of Cambridge, UK)[6]
- 2021: Tanmoy Paul (University of Burdwan, India)[7]
Symmetry also confers various other awards typically on a yearly basis, including Best Paper Awards, Outstanding Reviewer Awards, and Travel Awards.[8] In addition, based on recommendations by scientific editors, Symmetry chooses a small number of articles judged to be of particular interest or importance to the field, which are selected as Editor's Choice.[9]
