The app is notable for producing near-human quality voices, and for using optical character recognition technology to turn physical books or any printed text into audio.[4] The app lets users take photos of text and then listen to it read out loud instantly, like an audiobook.[5]

History

Speechify was founded by Cliff Weitzman, a dyslexic college student at Brown University[6][7] who built the first version of the tool himself to help him keep up with his class readings.

Product

In addition to English, Speechify's in-app user interface is available in the following languages: French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, simplified Chinese, and traditional Chinese.[8]
