Relja Popović

Relja Popović (Serbian Cyrillic: Реља Поповић, born on 2 August 1989) is a Serbian rapper, singer-songwriter and actor. Born and raised in Belgrade, he rose to prominence alongside childhood friend Vladimir Matović as members of the duo Elitni Odredi, which was founded in 2005.[1] After they had taken a hiatus in 2015, Relja pursued a solo career with his first single "Beograd još živi" (2016).[2] At the beginning of 2020, Popović also established a record label imprint, called Made In Blkn Records, in distribution deal with IDJTunes.

Popović also became the youngest recipient of the grand prix at the Sarajevo Film Festival for his performance in Ordinary People (2009).[3] He has also had a supporting role in the box office success The Parade (2011) and crime drama series Besa (2021-present).[4]

Popović has dated singer Nikolija Jovanović since 2014, with whom he has two daughters.

Biography

Popović was born on August 2, 1989 in Belgrade to Zoja Begolli (née Đoković), who was a ballet dancer at the National Theatre in Belgrade and lecturer at the Academy of Arts, and Srđan Popović, who worked as a sports journalist at the daily newspaper Večernje Novosti.[5][6][7] Grew up in the Paviljoni neighborhood of New Belgrade, he was raised by a single mother after losing his father in 1991. Popović has an older half-brother, Miša, who according to Relja exposed him to hip-hop during their childhood through artists such as Eminem, Jay-Z and Juice.[8] Before graduating from high school Relja was shot in stomach after trying to defend his girl friend in a pub, and had his kidney and spleen removed.[7]

Popović graduated from the Faculty of Media and Communications at the Singidunum University and also studied acting at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade.[9][7]

In 2014, he started dating singer Nikolija Jovanović after Elitni Odredi had collaborated with her on the single "Alkohola litar".[10] They welcomed their first daughter, named Rea, on September 26, 2016.[11] The couple's second daughter was born on July 17, 2021.[12]
