History
The oldest finds of habitation in the area date to Neolithic times. On a nearby hill, Rubin was probably a mythical Slavic settlement, Wogastisburg, which in 631 or 632 was the site of a battle between the Slavs under King Samo and Franks under Dagobert I. The first written mention of the village is from 1369. During the 16th century, the language spoken in the town and the identity of its people slowly switched from Czech to German.
In 1575, the market town of Podbořany received town rights.[2]
In 1945–46, the German population was expelled.
