Patricia Felisa Barbeito

Patricia Felisa Barbeito is an American translator and professor of literature. She teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design and has translated works from Greek to English, including books by Menis Koumandareas, Elias Maglinis, Tatiana Averoff, M. Karagatsis, and Amanda Michalopoulou. She has won several award for her translations, including a 2022 fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the 2013 Constantinides Memorial Translation Prize.

Career

Barbeito is currently Professor of American Literatures at the Rhode Island School of Design. She did her undergraduate education at Brandeis University, and master's degree and Ph.D. in comparative literature at Harvard University.[1]

In addition to her academic work, Barbeito is a translator of Greek literature to English. She has translated works by Menis Koumandareas, Elias Maglinis, Tatiana Averoff, M. Karagatsis and Amanda Michacholopoulou.[2] Her translations of shorter works, including short stories and poetry have been published in anthologies of Greek writing published by Penguin Books,[3] in Words Without Borders[4][5] PEN/America, Asymptote Blog, Words Without Borders, Catapult, InTranslation, and Exchanges.[6] She has won several awards for her work: she has won a fellowship from the National Endowment of Arts,[7] has been shortlisted for the 2014 Greek National Translation Award,[8] and has been the winner of the Constantinides Memorial Translation Prize.[9]
