PD Note (Korean language: PD수첩)[1] is an investigative journalism program on MBC in South Korea.

PD Note is noteworthy for its role in stimulating the US beef protest and raising questions regarding the subsequently-discredited Hwang Woo-suk stem cell cloning.

Name

The "PD" is a Konglish and Japanglish abbreviation for "producer".

Planning and Overview

It is an investigative journalism program in which the producers follow up or directly cover in-depth reports on social issues, not just the reported content.

The first broadcast began on May 8, 1990, and it is being broadcast on a recorded basis. Due to the nature of the program, a protest from the target of the report and sometimes a request for suspension from the government caused a broadcast interruption or disruption in broadcast. On the other hand, this program moved from November 8, 2001 to the late-night time on Thursday, due to the new establishment of the Monday-Tuesday sitcom 'Lovers'. However, after being pointed out that the 'Lovers' sitcom plagiarized the famous American sitcom,[2] the reorganization in the spring of 2002 was reduced to one on Monday, and from April 2 of that year, the PD note returned to the late night time on Tuesday.
