Neera Arya
Neera Arya was a veteran of the Indian National Army (INA). She was a soldier in the Rani of Jhansi Regiment of the Indian Army.


Early life
Neera Arya was born in Khekra Nagar, Uttar Pradesh on the 5th of March 1902. Her father was an affluent businessman. She completed her early education in Calcutta.
Death of Husband
Neera Arya was married to Shrikant Jairanjan Das, who actively served the British investigative agency CID.[1] Realising Neera Arya had become part of the Rani Jhansi Regiment of the Indian National Army, Shrikant wanted Neera to assassinate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. When Neera Arya refused, Shrikant Jairanjan Das wanted her to disclose Netaji's whereabouts, to assassinate Netaji himself. During a failed assassination attempt, Shrikant fired a shot towards Netaji. Netaji survived the shooting but his driver was shot down. Upon hearing this, Neera stabbed her husband Shrikant to death.[2][3] Neera Arya died on Sunday 26 July 1998 in Hyderabad.
After killing her husband
Neera's husband was a British soldier, she was sent for a trial for killing a loyal British soldier. After the trial she was sent for lifetime imprisonment to cellular jail on Andaman & Nicobar islands, popularly known as Kālā Pānī. There she was tortured to know the whereabouts of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
After Life
Neera was released from jail after independence of India. She lived rest of her life in Hyderabad by selling flowers. She died on July 26, 1998.
