Mtwara District
Mtwara Mikindani Municipal District Council is one of eight regional councils of the Mtwara Region in Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by the Lindi Region, to the east by the Indian Ocean and to the south and west by the Mtwara District.
According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Mtwara Mikindani Municipal Council was 108,299.[1]
Wards
The Mtwara Urban District is administratively its divided into 2 divisions (Mtwara Urban and Mikindani Division), and has 15 wards, 185 mitaas (streets), 6 villages and 27 hamlets.
The Mtwara Urban Division is well paved with roads and consist of most CBDs. It has 10 wards:
- Chikongola
- Chuno
- Likombe
- Majengo (English meaning: buildings)
- Railway
- Shangani
- Ufukoni
- Vigaeni
- Rahaleo
- Naliesndele
The Mikindani Division consists of a small colonial historical town (Mikindani) and has 5 wards:-
- Mitengo
- Mtonya
- Magengeni
- Kisungure
- Jangwani (English meaning: in the desert)
