Manuel Echeverría

Manuel "Ciclón" Echeverría, (August 14, 1913, in Navojoa – October 14, 1981, in La Paz, Baja California Sur) was a Mexican baseball player.[1]

Career

As a kid, Echeverría played for the team of the Talamante School, in his hometown Navojoa, Sonora. In 1935, he was part of the Sonora Baseball Team.

He played in the Liga de la Costa with Naranjeros de Hermosillo and Mayos de Navojoa. Where he had had 82 wins and 54 losses. He also played with Águilas de Mexicali in the Sunset League, obtaining 52 wins and 29 losses. In the 1951 season the team's success was impressive when winning 28 games and losing only 8, with 333 K's and a 2.74 ERA. Echeverría was designated MVP of the league.

Echeverría also played in the for Cafeteros de Córdoba, Industriales de Monterrey, Alijadores de Tampico, Azules de Veracruz, Ángeles de Puebla, Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo, Tuneros de San Luis and Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League.[1]

Death

Echeverría died on October 14, 1981, while playing a softball match in the Municipal Stadium of La Paz, Baja California Sur. The next year, in 1982, he was inducted into the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame. The Mayos de Navojoa stadium is named after him.[2][3]
