Background

In 1959, she became her son's Cub Scout pack leader. Gradually, she became involved in Canadian Scouting.[1] Back in Canada, she was the first female district commissioner of Scouts Canada.[1] In 1970, she became the first woman appointed District Commissioner.[3] She, then, played an important role on the international scene, in particular in assisting the rebirth and integration of scouting in the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.[4]

In 2012, Shaddick was awarded the 338th Bronze Wolf, the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world scouting, only the fifth woman to receive the honor, an one of eight Canadians.[5][6]

Personal life

Maggie was the daughter of Colonel G.M. Carrie, and Margaret Carrie. Maggie Carrie married Duncan Shaddick with whom she had six children: Bob, Liz, Anne, Andrew, Patricia, and Pippa.[5]
