Lumiar School
Lumiar was founded in 2002 by a group of inspired educators who had a vision to transform education worldwide. Research carried out by Stanford University, Unesco and Microsoft, rated Lumiar as the only Latin American institution to appear on the list of effective transformative initiatives. Lumiar has also been recognised as one of the most innovative methodologies in the world by OECD.[1]
One of the fundamental purposes of our pedagogical methodology is to help students build their autonomy and to develop skills throughout of the investigation of knowledge, their passions, interests and strengths, in a democratic and creative learning environment.
Since 2002, Lumiar, in an absolutely disruptive way, has been changing profoundly the rules that had before been understood as indispensable in a school, such as the students and teacher standards, grades, age range groupings, curriculum and classes organised by subjects, among others. Lumiar Methodology presents a new paradigm structured into six pillars: Active Learning, Integrated Assessment, Mosaic Curriculum, Participatory Management, Multi-aged Groups and Tutor and Master.
Lumiar has partnerships worldwide. There are eight full Lumiar schools, such as in the city of São Paulo, Poços de Caldas, Porto Alegre in Brazil; Kent and Stowford in UK.
