Nazim Jokhio Murder

Abdul Karim Bijar and his brother, Jam Awais Bijar, were accused of involvement in the murder and torture of a local journalist, Nazim Jokhio, in Salar Kot, Sindh on 03 November 2021. The journalist's body was discovered at a farmhouse owned by the lawmaker.[2] The police believe that Jokhio was tortured and murdered for reporting on the illegal hunting of the protected houbara bustard bird in Thatta district by the two accused and their guests. The MNA escaped the country and was declared an absconder on 27 January 2022.[3] On 7th February 2022, the case was transferred from the civil court to an Anti Terrorism Court.[4]

Ahead of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan, Bijar was granted a protective bail of 10 days by the Sindh High Court on 25 March 2022. The accused admitted to being in Dubai in his application.[5] In reaction, Interior Minister, Sheikh Rasheed, put the absconder's name on Exit Control List (ECL) and maintained that he will be arrested on arrival in Pakistan since he is yet to surrender before a court of law.[6]
