InterContinental Hotel Tamanaco

The InterContinental Tamanaco Caracas Hotel is located in Caracas, Venezuela. It was designed by John Wellborn Root Jr., who also designed the Palmolive Building in Chicago.[1]

The construction of the hotel, at a cost of $8m, was part of an effort by the Venezuelan government to boost the tourist trade in the country and was a partnership between private interests and the Ministry of Development who provided financial backing.[2] Designed as a luxury hotel with all modern features, it was reached by a newly opened road, the Autopista del Este (East Highway).[3] It opened in 1953, with 400 rooms.[4]

In 1957 it was the subject of a set of postage stamps issued by the post office of Venezuela.[5]
