Early life
Humberto Alejandro Castro Ward was born on December 15, 1984 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. He moved to El Paso, Texas at the age of 13 after his parents separated. On his 15th birthday he received his first video camera as a gift from his mother and immediately began to develop a passion for acting, screenwriting and filmmaking. He graduated from Father Yermo High School in 2003 and went on to attend The University of Texas at El Paso where he obtained his B.A. in Psychology and Minor in Criminal Justice in 2010.
Castro spontaneously enrolled into acting courses shortly after his college graduation and decided that he wanted to pursue a career in the film industry instead. He began by making a couple of short films entitled Reflection (2010) and The Beginning (2012) with the help of his longtime girlfriend (now wife), family members and friends. Leading and supporting roles in several other short independent films, music videos, TV series and web series soon followed.
Living in the U.S. as a former undocumented immigrant also inspired Castro to make his first feature film called El Sueño (2016); an action-drama that focused on and brought attention to the DREAM Act. Two and a half years later, he and his wife released the short psychological-thriller I Am Psycho (2018); connecting it with their first two short films to create a short film trilogy. By this point in his acting career, he wanted to test his versatility as an actor and challenged himself by playing more complex characters. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he creatively worked and co-starred alongside his wife and younger brother to safely make his fourth short film called The Confession Project (2020); a crime-thriller about a mental health awareness documentary project gone wrong.
Castro continues to live in El Paso, Texas and has been married to Lorraine Sanchez since August 23, 2014.[2]
He became a legal U.S. resident on July 12, 2006 and was sworn in as a naturalized U.S. citizen on December 15, 2011.
In 2016, Castro started his own film production company called Award Pictures. He came up with the name by combining the initial from his middle name (Alejandro) with his second last name (Ward).[3]
