Ear drop

Ear drops are a form of topical medication for the ears used to treat infection, inflammation, impacted ear wax or trapped insects, as well as local anesthesia.[1] It is used for short-term treatment and can be purchased with or without a prescription.[2]

Common types of ear drops

  • Acid-based detergents to break up ear wax
  • Alcohol and acetic acid solutions to prevent swimmer's ears
  • Antibiotics to treat bacterial infections
  • Anesthetics to help numb ear pain
