EUFIC communicates science-based information on a wide range of food and health topics, such as nutrition and lifestyle, food safety and quality, sustainable food and food risk communication. EUFIC's work to improve people's understanding of food and health science focuses on three core pillars:
- leveraging peer-reviewed science and the resources of authoritative bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and European authorities
- providing actionable advice on healthy nutrition and lifestyle, food safety and sustainability
- educating on how to critically assess food and health claims made in the media
Scientific integrity and impartiality sit at the core of EUFIC’s work. An independent Scientific Advisory Board guides EUFIC's work ensuring that materials reflect the scientific consensus.
EUFIC chooses its topics based on scientific relevance, importance to public health and the state of the public debate.
EUFIC's in-house consumer scientists help the EUFIC team and network better understand consumers’ attitudes and behavior towards food, and strengthen the consumer focus of its work.
The Brussels-based organisation brings its resources to the public via several outreach channels – in particular social media platforms, as well as through collaborations with a wide network of authoritative partners in the food and health space.
Collaborations
EUFIC operates as part of several consortia funded by the European Commission framework programmes as well as EIT Food and has long-standing collaborations with organisations such as the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO).
EUFIC is also actively involved in the European Nutritional Leadership Platform (ENLP), developing and connecting the next generation of leaders in food and nutrition.
